Imputation is an expressive word that in our relationship with our God. It is a word I did not think of much in relation to the Gospel until this past week. But imputation is a word I did not think of much in relation to the Gospel until this past week.

I have been doing a 12-week study called Behold Your God. They challenged me with the various words God uses for our salvation. This is because our salvation is so amazing!

They brought out the fact that most people stick to one word “salvation.” But then they miss out on God’s complete description.

Imputed is one of those words God uses to describe His amazing salvation.

Biblically this word gets you to think of salvation from a legal perspective.

Jesus the sinless one is legally judged as the lawbreaker. You, the law breaker are now treated as the law-keeper.

Simple enough, yes?

Yet, why is it those who name the name of Christ struggle to embrace this truth as a reality?

We try somehow to “pay” God back by keeping God’s commandments. After all it is what scripture says.

If ye love me, keep my commandments. John 14:15

Sanctification is a process by which we grow in holiness. Pharisaism is a nickname for a life that attempts to be right with God by a system of rule keeping. ~Behold Your God study Week 6 Day 2 Lesson

What commandments are you trying to keep? Do this or do that and maybe God will be happy with you?

Look at the context of the verses above.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. John 14:1

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

Do you see that His commandments are pointing you to the Jesus Christ? He is the one who keeps ALL God’s commandments.

Rather than focus on if YOU can do this or that focus on what Jesus Christ has done and is doing in and through you. Is Christ allowed to live His life in you?

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. John 14:16-18

See, Jesus lived the sinless life, died the awful death with God’s wrath on Him and rose again victorious. Everything Jesus is – now it is imputed on you.

Yeah, I know you don’t deserve it. But God did not impute the life of His son on you because you deserve it. He imputed in His life on you for the very fact you did not deserve it.

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6

Today meditate on imputation, one of many words God uses to describe His amazing Gospel. Be refreshed to know Jesus took all you are and has given to you all HE is for His glory.

Never was living beauty as a dying Saviour. ~Charles Spurgeon
